This small tree blooms off and on for the whole year. Some time you don't look up to see the flowers, but you stop to enjoy the fragrance. It smells just like Narcissus papyraceus, the paper white narcissus. The seed pods look like a bunch of red radishes when ripe.

My Public Library

This wing of the Coral Gables Women's Club was the public library for our city until the late 50's. When the county built a public library in the middle of the city, the Women's Club gave the space to a dental clinic for needing children.

This church is across the street from the city hall. The congregation owns 30% of the block. Now developers want to buy the property and build a high rise building. Progress is not necessarily good for the city. It would be like lousing a friend.

This specie is one of the rarest among palms. It is so, because the plant needs around 50 or 60 years for its flowers to bloom. And then it dies.

This is the Silky Floss Tree / Chorisia speciosa and it is just started to bloom. This particular tree is always early and then there are other trees that are always late. That gives us a long time to enjoy this beautiful tree.

It Was Once a Church

The space used by this high rise building in the middle was first the city post office then the Coral Gables Presbyterian Church bought the post office. I loved that old building. But the Presbyterians needed a more useful and modern church. While I didn't particularly like the new church it was much nicer then the high rise that we have now. The church had stain windows that were in memory of my grandparents. I wanted to buy the windows to give them to another church. The new owners refused to sell and they used the windows in the new building.

A Pocket Park

This park is the only park in the north part of our city. This part of the city was developed before pocket parks became important. When the city bought this land, the local Rotary Club paid for the landscape. The city then named the park in honor of the Rotary Club of Coral Gables. The plants in this park are all natives to our area. It sort of looks like the open land in the city of my youth (with out the grass).
